The John Lennon® Real Love Project is a free songwriting and music workshop for those whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

A program of Theatre Within, the grassroots non-profit behind the Annual John Lennon Tribute, the workshop launched in 2014 at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx and found a home the following year at Gilda's Club, NYC.

Using John Lennon songs as inspiration, workshop partcipants learn to play guitar, compose their own songs, and sing their truth. In 2017, Theatre Within provided 20 workshops at no cost to participants.

In 2018, Theatre Within will provide ongoing workshops for 5-12 year-olds who have lost a parent to cancer, adult cancer survivors, and those undergoing treatment. The workshop leaders, Pete and Maura Kennedy, Stephanie Carlin and Scott Bierko, are accomplished musicians and teachers.

The John Lennon Real Love Project was conceived by Theatre Within President/Executive Director Joe Raiola. The original curriculum for the children’s workshop was designed by Stephanie Carlin.

Instruments for the The John Lennon Real Love Project have been generously donated by the Guitar Center and by Joan Zachary, former Training Manager at Martin Guitar.
