The John Lennon® Real Love Project is a songwriting and music workshop for children who have lost a parent to cancer, adult cancer survivors and their family members. The workshop is a program of Theatre Within, the grassroots non-profit behind the Annual John Lennon Tribute.
With the warm support of Yoko Ono, the workshop launched in 2014 at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx and found a home the following year at Gilda's Club, NYC.
Using John Lennon songs as inspiration, workshop partcipants learn to play guitar or ukulele, compose their own songs, and sing their truth. The workshop is provided at no cost and is made possible by contributions from Theatre Within supporters.
In 2017, Theatre Within is providing ongoing workshops for bereaved youth and adults in treatment. The workshops are led, respectively, by veteran music teacher Scott Bierko, and singer-songwriters Pete and Maura Kennedy.
